Interim Housing Program at Franciscan House

The Interim Housing Program started on May 3, 2011 and serves 14 shelter guests at a time. The goal is to help them move on to permanent housing within 120 days. Potential participants may apply to be a part of the program or may be invited by staff to participate.

Participants enjoy 24 hour access to the shelter, life skills training, and volunteer opportunities. We select those participants who are most motivated to leave the shelter and find housing.

They receive intensive case management that is designed to help them find housing in 120 days. The needs of the individual as well as the barriers they face in obtaining permanent housing will determine how quickly they will move through the program. There are two Phases to the program. In Phase 1, participants must attend life skills classes and volunteer 25 hours per week. In Phase 2, participants have reduced volunteer hour requirement because they are working or in a job training program.

As of December 15, 2011, 12 persons are participating in Phase 1, three are in Phase 2, 7 have moved into permanent housing, and 9 have left the program without getting housing.
